Sam Spangler

After spending six years covering Sports from 2012-2018, KHON2 sportscaster Sam Spangler is returning home and making a move to the news desk.

KHON2’s weekend anchor will also be reporting in the field during the week.

“I’ve always wanted to serve the community that has given so much to me and my growth into becoming a man, and I feel like my best avenue to do that is keeping the public informed.” Spangler said.

Spangler didn’t just cover athletes. He used to be one himself.

The University of Hawaii at Manoa graduate and former WAC champion was a pitcher in the Minnesota Twins organization from 2010-2011 after being selected twice in the Major League Baseball draft.

One of Sam’s most memorable experiences at KHON2 is covering the 2012 Hawaii High School Athletic Association football state championship. “The pride shown in the communities of Kahuku and Punahou, as well as the respect displayed between the two, was awe-inspiring,” he says.

The Interdisciplinary Studies major and former Spectrum Sports color analyst can be found spending his free time with his wife Chassis and son Raymond.

“There’s no better place in the world to raise a family than our islands. I want to do everything I can to help keep it that way.”
